Full job description

See yourself at Dataminr

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you sit at the intersection of our technology and our customers' hardest problems. Working in small teams with a high degree of ownership, you will deploy, build on, and operationalize First Alert inside customer environments — many of them defense, national security, and NATO-aligned organizations across Europe. Projects often begin with an open-ended operational question, and it is your job to translate that into a working solution that gives operators decision advantage in real time.

A defining part of this role is building on Palantir Foundry. You will design data pipelines, ontologies, and applications in Foundry that fuse Dataminr's real-time intelligence with the customer's own operational data — sensor feeds, asset and troop locations, and mission context — then own that solution end to end, from first whiteboard sketch to a system operators rely on in the field or the operations center. Your week might span debugging infrastructure and networking issues, discussing data architecture with fellow engineers, integrating Dataminr APIs, and sitting with customer stakeholders to shape what to build next.

AI Innovation at Dataminr

Working at Dataminr you’ll have the opportunity to tackle the most exciting trends in AI on a daily basis to power a revolutionary product that uncovers critical events around the world as they unfold.

Regenerative AI : our AI technology, ReGenAI, is a new form of generative AI that automatically regenerates real-time Live Event Briefs as events unfold. Learn more here .

Agentic AI : we recently launched our Agentic AI capability, what we’re calling our Intel Agents, that autonomously generates critical context for our clients on real-time events, threats, and risks allowing them to see the clearest, most accurate view of what’s happening on the ground. Learn more here

Multimodal AI: our platform detects events from many different types of data (images, video, sensor data, audio, and text in over 150 languages). Learn more here .

The opportunity

  • Partner directly with defense and security customers to understand their highest-priority situational awareness and force protection problems, then scope solutions against them.

  • Design, build, and deploy solutions on Palantir Foundry that operationalize First Alert — including data pipelines, ontology models, and operator-facing applications.

  • Integrate Dataminr's real-time intelligence into customer workflows, common operating pictures, and existing command-and-control tooling, ensuring users with disparate information requirements across the organization are receiving mission-relevant information.

  • Build and fine-tune custom widgets where needed to enable customers to best operationalize real-time intelligence.

  • Own solutions end to end, working with minimal supervision and making sound technical decisions independently.

  • Debug across the full stack — infrastructure, networking, and application layers — often in restricted, disconnected, or on-premise environments.

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customer engineers and operators, and channel their feedback back into the Dataminr product.

  • Travel to customer sites and operations centers across Europe as needed (approximately 25–75% of the time).

What you bring

At Dataminr, we value you for who you are. We encourage you to apply for this role, even if you don't meet every qualification. Our candidates are reviewed on the basis of their skill and potential to succeed.

  • A strong engineering background, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • Palantir Foundry expertise: hands-on experience building on Palantir Foundry — data pipelines, ontology, Compute Modules, Code Repositories / Workbooks, and application development. This is a core requirement for the role.

  • Programming: proficiency in one or more of Python, Java, SQL, TypeScript/JavaScript, Bash, or Go.

  • Dataminr architecture & use cases: the ability to quickly understand the Dataminr platform architecture, data model, and First Alert defense and public sector use cases, and to reason about how technical decisions affect the operator.

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering or forward-deployed / solutions engineering experience delivering production systems.

  • Infrastructure: familiarity with containers (Docker / Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes / OpenShift), plus solid Linux, networking, and on-premise infrastructure fundamentals.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and to thrive in a fast-changing environment with iterative, mission-driven objectives.

  • NATO Secret clearance: an active NATO Secret security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one. This is a requirement for the role.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 25–75% and to work on-site in secure customer facilities.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying software in classified, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted / disconnected environments.

  • Background supporting defense, intelligence, national security, or emergency-management operations.

  • Familiarity with geospatial platforms and a common operating picture (e.g., Esri / ArcGIS) or command-and-control systems.

  • Experience with front-end frameworks and building data-rich, operator-facing applications.

  • Understanding of NATO or national defense customer environments and their accreditation and compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency in an additional European language.
