JMT's Sylva Construction Management Team is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to be responsible for managing the administration of a major highway construction project in Western North Carolina.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of NCDOT central let contracts

  • Responsible for project QA/QC in the assigned region

  • Maintains and builds client relationships

  • Hire, train, develop, and conduct performance reviews for staff

  • Supervises contract construction work, establishment of engineering controls for the contractor, and inspection of the construction project

  • Works with other NCDOT Departments, the public and local government officials

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assists design disciplines with constructability questions/issues

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products,

  • Working knowledge of SAP

  • Working knowledge of HiCAMS and SharePlus/SharePoint

  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle Screening

Required Experience

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 4+ years of experience working in the CM/CI or engineering field

  • Ability to supervise lower-level employees and provide guidance and mentorship in both highway and bridge construction

Qualifications Preferred

  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or Construction Management

  • Professional Engineering license.

  • Experience working with local clients

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a mixture of both general office environment and outside environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Outside environment will require the ability to work safely with exposure to hazards associated with construction sites including night work, heights, highway traffic and traversing rough terrain.
