Fargo, ND, USA | Hourly | 45-60 per hour DOE, the pay range is an estimate, and compensation may fall outside the posted range depending on experience. We offer overtime compensation at your base hourly rate for any hours worked over 40 per week, something rarely offered to professional exempt salaried positions. | Full Time

At Ackerman-Estvold, transportation engineering is about more than designing roads. It's about creating infrastructure that connects people, communities, and businesses-and we're looking for an experienced Transportation Engineer, PE to help lead that work.

If you're a licensed engineer with strong transportation experience, a solid understanding of DOT projects, and a desire to take ownership of meaningful work, we'd like to meet you.

Salary: $95,000–$135,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Put Your Experience to Work

As a Transportation Engineer, PE, you'll have the opportunity to lead projects from concept through construction while serving as a trusted technical resource for clients, agencies, and your project team.

You'll work with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), municipalities, and regulatory agencies on transportation projects that directly impact the communities we serve.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading transportation and roadway projects from planning through construction

  • Serving as Engineer of Record on applicable projects

  • Preparing roadway and highway designs, plans, specifications, and technical documents

  • Managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality control

  • Coordinating with clients, agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Reviewing technical work and mentoring developing engineers

  • Supporting proposals, client relationships, and transportation business development

  • Developing practical, cost-effective solutions to complex transportation challenges

We're looking for someone who brings technical expertise and understands that successful projects are built on communication, accountability, and strong relationships.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license; ability to obtain North Dakota licensure through reciprocity

  • 6+ years of progressive transportation civil engineering experience

  • Experience with state DOTs; NDDOT experience is highly valued

  • Experience managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables

  • Strong knowledge of transportation design principles and DOT standards

  • Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or OpenRoads Designer

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
