Full job description

VCA South Shore Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced and driven Veterinary Technician Manager to provide leadership within our high-volume Emergency and ICU departments.

This role is designed for a skilled veterinary hospital leader with strong operational and people-management experience who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

The Veterinary Technician Manager collaborates with hospital leadership and ER/ICU doctors to promote efficient patient flow, strong team performance, and the consistent delivery of exceptional medical and client service. This position plays a key role in staff development, workflow optimization, and maintaining high standards of patient care across the technical team.

Due to the size of the department and associate team, this position is part of a two-manager leadership model. Both managers hold equal leadership responsibility and work closely together to provide consistent support, communication, and oversight across the department. Each manager will directly support approximately 25–30 associates and have clearly defined areas of focus, with shared accountability for the department’s overall success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the daily operations of the ER/ICU technical teams to promote efficient patient care and workflow

  • Directly manage, support, and develop approximately 25–30 veterinary support associates

  • Work closely with ER and ICU doctors to support collaborative patient care, identify staff training needs, and strengthen communication between the medical and technical teams

  • Partner closely with the other ER/ICU Technician Manager to ensure consistent leadership and support across the department

  • Support staffing strategy, scheduling, attendance, and performance management

  • Coach and develop supervisors, team leads, and veterinary support staff

  • Promote consistency in hospital processes, medical protocols, and client service standards

  • Collaborate with medical and administrative leadership to improve efficiency and patient outcomes

  • Support financial and operational goals, including effective staffing utilization and resource management

  • Maintain a strong presence in the hospital to monitor patient flow, team morale, and service quality

  • Assist in resolving escalated client concerns and operational challenges

What We’re Looking For:

  • Five or more years of veterinary hospital experience, with strong exposure to ER/ICU operations preferred

  • CVT or similar preferred

  • Proven leadership or management experience in a veterinary or medical environment

  • Strong ability to manage workflows and navigate high-pressure situations

  • Excellent communication, coaching, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills

  • An operational mindset with an understanding of staffing, budgeting, and hospital efficiency

  • Ability to balance clinical awareness with administrative leadership responsibilities

The annualized base salary for this position typically ranges from $60,000 to $90,000, based on experience and credentials.

This is a leadership-focused role for someone who understands the demands of emergency veterinary medicine and is ready to help guide a high-performing technical team within a collaborative leadership structure in a 24/7 hospital environment.
