Full job description

Rate: $16 USD per hour

Pay or shift range: $16 USD to $20.19 USD

This is the expected pay range for this position. Final offers are based on various factors including skill set, relevant experience, qualifications, and other job-related considerations.

Description

Position Type: Substitute Coverage – Grade 11 We are currently hiring Substitute Food Service Aides to provide flexible, as‑needed coverage within our central kitchen and food service operations. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking a meaningful role with schedule flexibility.

What You’ll Do:

As a Food Service Assistant, you’ll support the day‑to‑day operations of OCO’s central kitchen and meal programs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the daily needs of the kitchen

  • Working as an integral part of a team and stepping in wherever needed

  • Properly storing, caring for, and inventorying food and supplies

  • Following all dress codes, safety rules, and sanitation requirements

  • Preparing, cooking, collating, and packing components of daily meals

  • Assisting with hot, cold, and frozen food preparation

  • Cleaning your workspace, equipment, and tools throughout the day

  • Helping with full end‑of‑day clean‑up, including pots, pans, utensils, and equipment

  • Working additional hours as needed to meet program demand

  • Attending monthly food service safety & sanitation trainings

  • Learning additional roles within Nutrition Services to provide backup coverage when needed

  • Using a computer for basic tasks such as email, required trainings, and inventory documentation

  • Performing other related tasks as assigned

Job Requirements:

We’re seeking someone dependable, flexible, and committed to safety and teamwork. Applicants must:

  • Follow all NYS Department of Health Safety & Sanitation Codes

  • Work independently and follow daily checklists Maintain program and client confidentiality

  • Read and accurately follow lists, recipes, and instructions

  • Have or be willing to learn basic computer skills

  • Communicate effectively and model teamwork and cooperation

  • Use sound judgment and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment

  • Lift 35 lbs or more regularly

  • Be flexible with duties and hours as needed

  • Perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting

  • Hold a valid NYS Driver’s License and have access to a reliable, insured vehicle

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and

  • At least three months of related experience

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered
