POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that agency facilities, grounds, equipment, and work environments are safe, functional, well-maintained, and compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements. This position performs a wide variety of maintenance, repair, construction, and groundskeeping duties while supporting a safe and positive environment for employees, people served, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facility Maintenance & Repair
-
Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of agency facilities, grounds, equipment, and systems.

Complete maintenance and repair tasks including, but not limited to:
-
Carpentry
-
Plumbing
-
Electrical repairs
-
Masonry
-
Painting
-
Grounds maintenance
-
Snow and ice removal
-
Assist with office renovations, workspace modifications, and facility improvement projects.

Assemble, install, relocate, and move furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.

Maintain and properly operate machinery, equipment, tools, and vehicles.
-
Maintain an accurate inventory of assigned equipment, tools, parts, and supplies.
Leadership & Training
-
Provide guidance, supervision, and on-the-job training to assigned Facilities Assistants, interns, and other designated staff.
-
Promote positive work habits, professionalism, teamwork, and accountability.
-
Serve as a role model for vocational success and workplace excellence for individuals supported by the agency.
Compliance & Safety
-
Maintain all facility operations in accordance with agency policies, certification standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
-
Ensure compliance with requirements of OPWDD, OMH, OFA, the Department of Health, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
-
Actively participate in workplace health and safety programs and accident prevention initiatives.
-
Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and work areas to identify and address potential safety hazards.
-
Ensure all accidents, incidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions are promptly reported to supervisors and Human Resources.
-
Utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices when performing job duties.
-
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment always.
Administrative Responsibilities
-
Complete required documentation, maintenance records, inspection reports, and inventory logs accurately and timely.
-
Maintain compliance with all required training programs and certifications.
-
Understand and adhere to Gateway Hudson Valley’s Corporate Compliance Program, Standards of Conduct, policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.

Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while representing the agency.
-
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE
-
Prior facilities maintenance, building maintenance, construction, trades, or related experience preferred.
-
Experience operating maintenance equipment and power tools preferred.
LICENCES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid New York State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices.

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Safely operate agency vehicles, equipment, machinery, ladders, and power tools.

Be exposed to dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, and other environmental conditions commonly associated with maintenance work.
REGULATORY CLEARANCES REQUIRED:

Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License.

Background checks are required.
