Job overview

WMCHealth is hiring a Clinical Lab Technologist. The Clinical Technologist is responsible for all activities involving blood and blood components, including logging-in units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiating products, and washing RBCs. This role also involves setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist or automated machine, and performing maintenance on lab equipment.

Key focus areas include Perform type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification, Calculate and prepare blood for exchange transfusion, and Ensure blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels.

Successful candidates bring Bachelor's In Biological Science and Clinical Lab Technologist License. Preferred (not required): Logging-In Units, Thawing Plasma, Thawing And Pooling Cryoprecipitate, and Irradiate Products.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Technologist is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.

Responsibilities:

Performing type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification
Calculating and preparing blood for exchange transfusion
Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels
Recording all quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
Ensuring all blood components intended for transfusion are in accordance with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP and NYBC
Handling other related functions as needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

Transfusion Service or as a Generalist with prior Blood Bank experience preferred

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science or MT

Licenses / Certifications:

Clinical Lab Technologists issued by the New York State Education Department; or (b) possession of a limited permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or restricted license to practice clinical laboratory technology at Westchester Medical Center issued by the New York State Education Department.
