Mechanic (Truck Fleet Operations)
Almstead Tree and Shrub Care is a second-generation, family-owned arboriculture firm that has been offering environmentally conscious services in the NY, NJ, and CT tri-state area since 1964. We are looking for a skilled PM Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct routine, scheduled preventative maintenance on machines, vehicles, or facility equipment to maximize lifespan and minimize unplanned downtime. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a team player.
Responsibilities include:
·Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled services such as oil changes, fluid checks/replacements, filter changes, lubrication, belt adjustments and check for DOT issues.
Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of equipment, diesel trucks, and equipment trailers to identify potential issues before they cause breakdowns.
Minor Repairs: Perform minor mechanical repairs and road calls as needed.
Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all maintenance work, inspections, and parts used, via Repair Orders and PM documentation.
Safety & Cleanliness: Follow industry safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and safely operate tools and machinery.
Requirements
·Experience: 1–3+ years of experience in maintenance, preferably as a PM mechanic or technician; Experience with tree industry equipment is a plus
Technical Skills: Knowledge of diesel engines, medium equipment, hydraulic systems and equipment trailers.
Tools: Your own tools are required.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational school training is a plus.
Driver’s License: Valid driver's license required; a CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50–65 lbs, stand, bend, and work in various weather conditions.
