Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher and complete related work as required. The duties of this position may require specific skills and abilities based on the students’ needs and/or program, including but not limited to:
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students. • Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. • Implement specialized instruction to students. • Collaborate with colleagues and assist teacher to meet student learning needs. • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders. • Assist with maintaining record keeping. • Attend staff meetings and trainings. • Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments

Job Qualifications
Only candidates who hold NYS Teaching Assistant certification will be considered.
Certification is required by the New York State Education Department - "Any person employed, as a teaching assistant, shall hold of one of the following credentials: temporary license, continuing certificate; or a Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate. However, if an individual holds a teaching, pupil personnel, or administrative certificate, he or she need not also obtain a temporary license, continuing certificate, Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate to serve as a teaching assistant, unless required by the employing district."
Essential elements of the position may require specialized knowledge and/or experience in the field and/or trade subject. Depending on the course there may be a requirement of successful completion of specialized training and/or safety certifications.
