Full job description

This position is responsible for supervising and directing the field work of employees engaged in sewer line repair activities for the City's Water and Sewer Dept.

  • Oversee the repair of water and sewer line by using industry standards and State Laws as a guideline.
  • Prioritize and distribute job assignments to water/sewer repair Crews. Uses
  • Review job assignments making sure jobs have been completed correctly
  • Performs flushing of Water Distribution
  • Performs Supervisor duties such as Annual Performance Evaluations, payroll, Discipline, etc
  • Keeps detailed records and reports of sewer and water line records and repairs,
  • Hires and trains new employees;
  • Conduct training of crews and technicians making sure repair and testing procedures are followed. High School diploma or equivalent; related technical degree or Associate degree preferred; five (5) to six (6) years of related experience; State of Georgia Level 1 or 1b certification. Drivers CDL license required. Possession a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the location of City streets, water and sewer line repairs and maintenance;
  • Skill in oral and written communication;
  • Skill in dealing with the general public;
  • Ability to train and supervise the activities of waterline and sewer line repairs and troubleshoot issues;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel;
  • Reviews all work order reports for accuracy
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Knowledge Required by the Position:
  • Knowledge of water meter functions;
  • Knowledge of water safety regulations;
  • Knowledge of the City electrical, water and gas systems;
  • Ability to arrange and rearrange water and sewer crews as necessary;
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations rapidly and accurately. Supervisory Controls: Employee works directly for the Construction Manager and is responsible for making decisions requiring the application of considerable knowledge of departmental rules and regulations but may refer difficult policy or technical matters to an administrative supervisor for decision.

Guidelines: Guidelines include the Ga. UPC Code, City codes, policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Complexity: This position consists of supervisory decision making regarding water and sewer crews.

Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to supervise sewer personnel and assist with the provision of services to customers. Successful performance helps ensure continued sewer services and the timely resolution of account problems for customers.

Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with water and sewer employees, co-workers and the public.

Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.

Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee is required to frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color.

Work Environment : The work is performed outdoors and in an office. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility: This position involves the direct supervision of the sewer line repair crew.
