The Department of Counseling at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) may have the need to hire non-tenure track, part-time Lecturers to teach in the Master of Education in Counseling program for the academic year 2026-2027. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the program.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualifications to be considered as a non-tenure track, part-time lecturer are a

master’s degree in counseling or a related field of study from an accredited

institution, licensure and/or school counseling certification, and years of experience in the area of course content. Candidates also must meet SACSCOS primary or alternate qualifications (e.g., licensure and/or school counseling certification, 5 years of experience in course content) to teach certain counseling courses.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualification

Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision or a related field of study from an accredited institution. Teaching and practical experience in the area of course content is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ) and/or Certified School Counselor is preferred but required for certain counseling courses.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ).
