Position Summary
The AEMT provides advanced prehospital emergency medical care in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations, UPMC medical command protocols, and Ambulance and Chair policies. The AEMT functions as a key clinical provider, delivering interventions while supporting high-quality patient care across 911 and non-emergency responses.

Key Responsibilities
-
Respond to 911 and non-emergency calls in a safe, timely, and professional manner
-
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and deliver care within the PA AEMT scope of practice
-
Initiate and manage vascular access, including IV therapy, as authorized
-
Administer approved medications per protocol and medical command direction
-
Assist with airway management and advanced respiratory support
-
Operate ambulances and emergency equipment in a safe and responsible manner
-
Accurately complete electronic patient care reports
-
Communicate effectively with patients, families, dispatch, hospital, ALS provides, and partner agencies
-
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to EMT-Basics when appropriate
-
Maintain readiness of vehicles, equipment, and supplies
-
Participate in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and research opportunities
Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required
-
Current Pennsylvania Advanced EMT certification
-
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with acceptable driving record
-
Current BLS, PHTLS/ITLS card
-
Emergency Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) certificate
-
Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including lifting and moving patients
-
Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills
-
Ability to work independently and remain calm in high-stress situations
Clearances must be dated within 90 days:

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

Act 33 with renewal

Act 34
-
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
Preferred Qualifications
