National Salvage & Service Corporation is a trusted industry leader in the dismantling of railroad tracks, the removal of railroad ties from right-of-ways and the demolition of bridges. Railroad track removal and demolition is National-s core business - we have been removing tracks since National was founded in 1980.

National Salvage is searching for a GRAPPLE TRUCK MATERIAL HANDLING OPERATOR who is results oriented and has a self-motived work ethic. They will be able to quickly resolve any safety issues that may arise on track, while maintaining both company and Railroad compliance regarding safety. Our next GRAPPLE TRUCK MATERIAL HANDLING OPERATOR will have a deep sense of partnership with our Home Office Team and our Railroad Partners. This position does require a CDL (Class A and/or B) and at least 2 years of experience.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Travel is required, 4 weeks out then 1 week at home.

  • Hauling railroad ties, scrap metal, scrap wood, and equipment

  • Physically able to secure loads: strapping, tarping and torquing

  • Able to work long hours, overtime, and possible weekends in all weather conditions

  • Filling out daily paperwork and working independently

  • Ability to use a smart phone, GPS, and Electronic Logging Device (ELD)

  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems on equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Class A CDL required

  • Previous Railroad experience preferred

  • Friendly approach when working with customers

  • Good communication with dispatchers and office employees, written and verbal

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Completely and accurately fill out daily paperwork

  • Basic mechanical knowledge to make small repairs (change hydraulic hose, grease and lube, safety walk around inspection)

  • Follow all Safety Program, Policies and Procedures

  • Must be able to pass a pre-offer drug test and will be subject to FRA random drug testing.
