Full job description

About Roon We are focused on building the digital home for doctors - a free, physicians-only community to connect, share knowledge, and shape the future of medicine.

We are backed by amazing venture investors including FirstMark Capital, Forerunner Ventures, Sequoia Capital, TMV, and SV Angel.

Role Description Work with our CTO and engineering lead on overall application architecture. We use PostgreSQL, Python (Django Rest Framework), and the Google Cloud Platform (specifically, Google Cloud Run) to bring our application to life. So far, we’ve built a search engine and an AI agent within a deeply empathetic app that “understands” what our caregivers and patients are going through. You’re going to help us scale that, and make it even better. We’re also building tools for medical professionals to answer commonly asked questions.

Traits We Admire Boundless Curiosity

You love to learn. You have a thirst for knowledge and constantly seek to expand your understanding of the world. Your curiosity spans a wide range of topics, with a special passion for all things at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

Genuine Care

You bring authentic care to everything you do, valuing each individual’s unique journey. You understand the profound impact that empathy and thoughtful attention can have on people’s lives.

Joyful Excellence

Striving for excellence in your craft fuels you. You hold a high bar for yourself and what you work on but do so in a way that inspires others and brings joy to the process.

Original Thinking

You dig beneath the surface, setting aside trendy thinking to arrive at insights and perspectives rooted in first principles. Your approach brings new, creative perspectives to solving problems.

What You’ll Do What we’re looking for: Leadership in software architecture. You write and think clearly, and understand that thinking is writing. Your architecture docs will be normative for what we build, whether it’s a collection of asynchronous worker threads or dynamic real time application surfaces. Performance and scale matter to you, and you’ll help us achieve both.

Strong coding skills. You'll be a lead engineer on our team. You get that there’s something beautiful about clean readable code. You know exactly when to *args and when to **kwargs when defining new constructs; a good with makes you smile; you’ll yield when iterators bubble over. We use Python in case you were wondering, but if you’re less familiar, you’ll just pick it up.

Experience with the Django framework or similar. We use models and views on top of PostgresQL, with technologies such as Redis, PubSub, Celery, and Pinecone. You’ve seen this before in equivalent frameworks.

Deep knowledge of a cloud platform and all the tools that come out of the box (so 5+ years of Google Cloud Platform or AWS experience is what we’re looking for).

Some experience with Docker or Kubernetes. We use container-based workflows in our system, and we intend to evolve these over time. If you’re DevOps adept, we want to hear form you!

A deep understanding of “API-led” or “service oriented” architectures, using a JSON + REST design. Useful work here would be using Flask + Python to design APIs, or the Django Rest Framework.

Comfort and experience (5+ years worth) with data stuff: SQL solutions (Postgres interfaces), and Bigtable, or Hadoop/Hive.

Deep knowledge of application security best practices.

Product and design sense. We are building for a population navigating difficult health conditions, so ensuring that our product is intuitive, accessible, and empathetic every step of the way is imperative. Engineers work closely with product and design - collaborating, ideating and even challenging the team if something doesn’t fall in line with our patient & caregiver first approach.

What Will Working for Roon Be Like? You'll receive competitive and transparent pay and equity. And if you happen to live in NYC or SF, where the cost of living is generally higher, we'll make pay adjustments accordingly. You can come and visit New York City, where we're based, whenever you want.

Apply Fill out the form or email [email protected] below! If it’s a good fit our CTO will reach out to you.
