We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to help lead designated Marina Quality Control teams. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Quality Control, you will assist in planning, coordinating, and directing respective aspects of quality control at the Marina Facility. The Quality Control Manager will lead a team to ensure the smooth execution of quality processes and inspections to ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of aircraft systems and components. The Quality Control Manager is responsible for guiding and developing an organization of inspection supervisors, leading a team of inspectors across assigned areas of the Marina manufacturing system. The role will be responsible for quality training systems, continuous improvement of quality and inspection processes, and compliance with internal and FAA Regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality management and quality control. This role will involve close collaboration with quality engineering, cross-functional teams, and internal stakeholders. The Joby Aviation team is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. Responsibilities

  • Leads a designated Quality Control team to manage all aspects of quality control while ensuring compliance with internal and FAA Regulations.
  • Participates in the coordination and support of Material Review Board activities and results. Cross-functional engagement with program management to understand and execute manufacturing/program priorities.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering to ensure all requirements are communicated to and executed by the quality control team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration with manufacturing to optimize processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Advise teams on design/change review activities, including inspectability, consistency, adequacy, accuracy, and conformance to requirements, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage data and metrics using data visualization tools to report inspection performance and quality levels.
  • Participate in product quality and quality management system reviews to assure compliance with drawings, work instructions and internal ISO9001/AS9100 and regulatory requirements.
  • Support product and process failure investigation to ensure effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions internally.
  • Assist with the development and continual improvement activities to enhance the Joby quality control and management system.
  • Supports the strategic planning and execution of long-term sustainable goals and objectives as determined by the Senior Manager of Quality Control.
  • Responsible for performing job duties in a manner consistent with established Joby Policies and Procedures.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years, Master’s with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or a related field (or 15+ years of relevant quality experience in lieu of a degree).

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in Quality Management, Leadership, or Quality Program Management role supporting a manufacturing environment

  • Understanding of mechanical systems and inspection processes, including in-process inspection and dimensional inspection

  • Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, and tools

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including writing skills

  • Experience in the aviation industry

Desired

  • Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of ISO9001, AS9100 or TS16949 Quality Management System
  • Knowledge of AS9102 first article inspection process
  • Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing and Green Belt certification

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $95,600 - $195,000 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
