Salary Range: $125,000.00 To $150,000.00 Annually

Position Summary:

The Shipyard Project Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the execution of vessel repair, retrofit, and maintenance projects within a fast-paced shipyard environment. This role ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all quality and regulatory standards. Reporting to the General Manager, the Shipyard Project Supervisor provides critical field-level leadership and works closely with Project Managers throughout all phases of project planning, execution, and closeout.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily execution of vessel repair activities, including docking, structural repairs, mechanical work, piping systems, and coatings.

• Coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors across drydock, pier-side, afloat, and confined space environments.

• Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules and priorities.

• Monitor progress and proactively address delays, risks, or scope changes.

• Apply structured planning methods (e.g., work breakdown structures, system/zone sequencing) to execute repair scopes effectively.

• Develop and maintain short-interval schedules (daily and weekly lookaheads).

• Align labor, equipment, and materials with project priorities in collaboration with project management and shipyard leadership.

• Identify and support evaluation of growth work, scope changes, and schedule adjustments.

• Supervise foremen, lead personnel, skilled trades, and subcontractors to ensure productivity and quality execution.

• Enforce all applicable safety protocols, including shipyard, client, and regulatory requirements.

• Lead daily safety meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs).

• Ensure compliance with USCG, ABS, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.

• Oversee safe execution of high-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, and overwater operations.

• Ensure all work meets contract specifications, class standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Verify proper adherence to welding procedures, fit-up tolerances, and coating standards.

• Coordinate inspections, including NDT, regulatory surveys, and third-party reviews.

• Support system testing, alignment verification, and commissioning activities.

• Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for vessel owners, surveyors, and client representatives.

• Provide regular updates on project status, schedule, risks, and performance.

• Support Project Managers with change orders, scope adjustments, and recovery plans.

• Maintain strong working relationships to ensure client satisfaction and confidence.

• Track labor, materials, productivity, and overall project progress.

• Provide accurate status updates, forecasts, and issue identification.

• Support project closeout activities, including documentation and turnover requirements.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 7–10+ years of experience in shipyard, marine repair, or related industries.

• Demonstrated experience supporting drydock projects and vessel repair operations.

• Prior supervisory or foreman experience in a marine or industrial environment.

• Strong knowledge of structural steel work, hull repairs, marine piping systems, and mechanical equipment.

• Understanding of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW) and related standards.

• Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, isometrics, and technical documentation.

• Familiarity with fit-up tolerances, alignment practices, distortion control, and coating standards.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across field teams, management, and clients.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with new-build or major vessel conversion projects.

• OSHA 30 Maritime certification.

• TWIC card.

• First Aid/CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work in confined or elevated spaces.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to work in active industrial and marine environments, both indoors and outdoors.

• Ability to board vessels and navigate uneven surfaces safely.

• Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.

Work Environment:

• Active shipyard environment, including drydock, pier-side, and afloat operations.

• Exposure to industrial conditions such as noise, weather, and heavy equipment.

• Requires extended hours, including overtime, nights, and weekends during active repair periods.
