Position Description

The Building Substitute Teacher serves as an integral member of the school community, providing consistent instructional coverage and classroom management in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This individual is assigned to one school building and rotates between different grade levels, subjects, and classrooms on a daily basis as determined by school needs. The Building Substitute ensures continuity of instruction, maintains a positive learning environment, and supports the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.

Essential Functions:

  • Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility

  • Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher or department.

  • Adapt teaching methods to meet students' diverse learning needs and maintain instructional continuity.

  • Facilitate learning in accordance with the Windham Board of Education curriculum standards and instructional goals.

  • Engage students in meaningful learning activities and maintain classroom routines and expectations.

  • Provide feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding student progress, challenges, and classroom activities.

  • Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships

  • Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

Qualifications/Certificates:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Must be able to work with diverse population

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management

  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Effective, active listening skills

  • Ability to work effectively with others

  • Organizational and problem solving skills

Days: Monday - Friday

Salary: Daily Rate $190, Non-Union, No Benefits
