3M is hiring a Multi-Craft Mechanic. The Multi-Craft Mechanic applies mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory to install, maintain, repair, modify, calibrate, and adjust automated machinery and equipment. This role focuses primarily on mechanical systems and secondarily on control systems to maximize machine availability at the 3M Knoxville facility. The mechanic will troubleshoot and repair various electrical and production equipment, build and test processes, and use diverse test equipment.

Key focus areas include Troubleshoot, repair, modify, PM check out, and/or install electrical and production equipment, Apply electrical and electronic theory to build, test, and calibrate processes on experimental and production equipment, and Use various types of test equipment including, but not limited to: oscilloscope, ammeter, megger, phase rotation tester, multimeter, PLC interfaces, optical and laser instruments, and dial indicator when troubleshooting and/or repairing equipment.

Successful candidates bring High School Diploma/GED and 3+ Years Industrial Maintenance. Important skills include Mechanical Theory, Electrical Theory, Electronic Theory, Control Systems, Troubleshooting, and Repair.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

Apply mechanical/electrical/electronic theory and related knowledge with primary focus on mechanical systems, secondary focus on control systems, to install, maintain, repair, modify, calibrate, and make adjustments to automated machinery and equipment in production, laboratory, office and utility areas to maximize machine availability at the 3M Knoxville facility.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, PM check out, and/or install electrical and production equipment including motors, generators, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, clutches, bearings, pumps computerized equipment and other devices following elementary logic/wiring diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams and repair manuals.

  • Apply electrical and electronic theory to build, test, and calibrate manual, automatic, digital, and computer-controlled processes on experimental and production equipment.

  • Use various types of test equipment including, but not limited to: oscilloscope, ammeter, megger, phase rotation tester, multimeter, PLC interfaces, optical and laser instruments, and dial indicator when troubleshooting and/or repairing equipment.

  • Read and understand mechanical, electrical, and electronic logic, pneumatic and hydraulic prints when troubleshooting, and repairing, building or installing equipment.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher (Completed prior to start) AND Three (3) years of Industrial Maintenance experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Possess or will possess prior to starting, a technical degree/diploma or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Robotics, Automation Technology, Industrial Robotics & Automation, Robotics/Automated Systems Technician, or other multi-craft technology program.

Pay & Benefits:

  • The starting rate of pay for this position is $30.93/hour once certified $37.28. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
