Deck Manager

$18.75/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership

Weekday afternoons, Saturday mornings

Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Deck Manager will assist in the scheduling and running of swim lessons. The individual will start each lesson by communicating with parents and students signed up for lessons. In addition, the Deck Manager will assist as needed with lessons and assist the instructor with evaluation of the student’s level. The Deck Manager will assist with training of new staff. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in development and execution of training for swim lesson staff.

  • Assist in conducting swimming classes in accordance with the National YMCA Swimming Program Guidelines.

  • Assist in the assignment of swim instructors to swim lessons.

  • Responsible for ensuring that lessons start on time.

  • Assist swim instructors at providing necessary training tools for lessons; bubbles, noodles, kickboards, etc.

  • Communicate with the parents and students as to the appropriate level of the class.

  • Assist in teaching lessons as needed.

  • Assist with the evaluation process of each student registered for class to ensure consistency across the program.

  • Complete swim evaluations for potential swim lesson students as needed.

  • Provide a lesson plan for any substitute.

  • Enforce all pool rules and ensure the pool deck is clean and clutter free.

  • Maintain all required certifications.

  • Attend all required meetings, branch events, in-service, and trainings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or GED.

  • Must have a minimum of one year teaching experience.

  • Must hold a current YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor Certification (YSLI)

  • Nationally recognized Lifeguard certification preferred

  • Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification. Must have O2 Administration or obtain within 30 days of employment.

  • Must possess good communication skills to deliver excellent member service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand for extended duration of shift.

  • Must be able to bend and stoop frequently.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness.

  • Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time.

  • Must be able to communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel in person and over the telephone.

  • Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water, understanding that significant background noise exists in aquatic environments.

Salary Description

$18.75 per hour
