Litigation Attorney – Civil Rights Defense & Local Government

A well-established law firm in the southwest suburbs of Chicago is seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to join its growing practice focused on civil rights defense and local government representation.

This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys a mix of litigation work, client counseling, and direct interaction with municipal staff and leadership on day-to-day legal issues and concerns. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, but the firm is looking for someone who values being engaged with clients and colleagues in person.

Key Responsibilities:

• Defend civil rights and tort matters in state and federal court

• Handle litigation involving Section 1983 claims

• Draft and argue briefs, motions, and other pleadings

• Conduct depositions and witness preparation

• Assist with and manage trial preparation

• Provide day-to-day legal guidance to local government and municipal clients

• Manage cases independently while collaborating with firm attorneys and client stakeholders

Requirements

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of litigation experience in state and federal court

• Strong background in civil rights defense, including Section 1983 litigation

• Experience with tort litigation

• Experience representing units of local government strongly preferred

• Government or municipal law experience is highly valued

• Excellent legal writing, research, motion practice, and advocacy skills

• Ability to work independently and maintain strong client relationships

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $100,000–$150,000, depending on experience

• Bonus: Discretionary bonus plus additional hours-based bonus for exceeding 1,920 billable hours
