Ambulance Communications Center – Call Taker

The Call Taker is responsible for handling all incoming calls to our EMS Communications Center. A desirable candidate will have knowledge of Medical Terminology and Customer Service experience. Candidate must have excellent communication and data entry skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance and medicar (wheelchair van) transportation.

  • Properly screen telephone calls and electronic communications.

  • Data entry.

  • HIPAA Compliance.

  • Ability to make decisions consistent with policy and guidelines.

  • Ability to think logically and quickly during an emergency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in communications and customer service.

  • Good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.

  • Detail-oriented and able to perform clerical functions.

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, via telephone and radio to obtain and provide relevant information.

LOCATIONS:

  • This position is located in Skokie, IL

EDUCATION, LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed EMT, EMD, or experienced EMS Dispatch (preferred).
