Sr. Controls Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global's customer in the Material Handling Industry is searching for Sr. Controls Engineers to join their team on a Remote basis with up to 50% Travel expectations. This individual will lead the design and development of industrial material handling control systems, from concept and requirements through prototyping, testing, and manufacturing implementation. This role develops PLC programs, control panel specifications, and automated equipment sequences while leading projects, ensuring performance, cost, quality, and safety objectives are met, and providing mentorship to junior engineers.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience

6+ years of controls engineering experience within industrial automation, material handling, manufacturing, or related environments

Hands-on experience developing and writing PLC code from the ground up, not solely implementing, modifying, or commissioning existing code

Experience leading large-scale controls projects from design and development through commissioning and final handoff

Experience leading teams of multiple engineers, designers, technicians, or cross-functional project members

Proven experience across the full project lifecycle, including:

Electrical design

PLC programming and controls development

System testing and validation

Startup and commissioning

Experience interfacing directly with customers, stakeholders, and project managers throughout project execution

Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs/controllers, Schneider PLCs, and industrial HMI/SCADA systems

Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software
