Maintenance Worker

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and remodeling of offices, houses, or other Agency facilities.

  • Performs rough and finished carpentry.

  • Tears down and rebuilds partitions.

  • Performs bench carpentry using shop equipment and power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, air-nailers, routers, and radial arms saws.

  • Builds tables, cabinets, shelves, and desks from rough sketches and blueprints.

  • Installs pre-hung, slab, wood-framed, and metal doors and window frames.

  • Repairs doors, door checks, and locks.

  • Repairs window frames, tables, chairs, and other wooden equipment.

  • Paints a variety of surfaces both inside and outside of buildings using brushes, spray guns, and rollers.

  • Performs plaster work and does patch plastering on old wall surfaces.

  • Makes routine electrical repairs such as replacing cooler motors, exhaust fans, lighting fixtures, electrical outlets, appliances, light switches, and ballasts.

  • Cleans equipment and work areas.

  • Measure distance using a tape measure or other measuring device.

  • Comprehend and make inferences from written materials.

  • Make controlled manipulations of small objects, such as assembling bolts, washers, collar units and inserting them in a small hole.

  • Reach high work areas with ladders and/or scaffolding and work at heights greater than ten feet.

  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

  • Report any safety issues immediately. If unable to complete/perform a job because of safety issues, report issues immediately to your supervisor.

  • Perform snow removal and lawn maintenance.

  • This position requires a two-week notice of voluntary resignation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience - High School Diploma or GED is required.

Previous Experience with Snow Plowing

Reasoning Skills - To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Sound decision making and judgment, interpersonal skills, planning/organizing, strategic thinking, time management and delegating. The ability to work independently in multiple settings. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports/correspondence and good communication and writing skills.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar or line graphs.

Computer Skills - Must be knowledgeable about Internet software and Microsoft Office components including Word, Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations - Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Successful completion of all required agency training.

  • Physically able to bend/stoop, squat, push/pull, reach above/below shoulder level frequently.

The rate of pay for this position starts at an annual salary of $45,760.00 based on $22.00/hour (or more depending on experience).
