Full job description

Nanopath is developing a first-in-class in vitro diagnostics platform to transform how diseases are diagnosed. We aim to replace lengthy molecular testing workflows by bringing rapid, high-quality diagnostics closer to the patient. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes – starting with women – through a purpose-built platform that delivers actionable results within a single office visit.

The company is headquartered at The Engine, the premier tough technology incubator in the Kendall Square ecosystem. We are collectively committed to health equity and the design of solutions for underserved populations and low-resource settings. Corporate sustainability – both environmental and social – is at the forefront of our decision making.

About the Role

  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer responsible for the design, development, and integration of electronics for Nanopath’s diagnostic platform

  • Own system-level electrical architecture, including PCB design, power management, signal integrity, and integration with embedded software and mechanical subsystems

  • Design and develop circuits supporting motion control, fluid actuation, thermal management, and optical detection systems

  • Lead bring-up, debugging, and validation of prototypes and production hardware

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, systems, assay) to define requirements and ensure seamless system integration

  • Develop and maintain documentation in compliance with ISO 13485

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong experience in analog and digital circuit design, including mixed-signal systems

  • Strong experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based designs

  • Proficiency in PCB design tools and schematic capture/layout best practices

  • Background in designing systems with precise thermal control, motor control, fluidic actuation, or optical detection

  • Experience developing hardware for medical devices regulated to ISO 13485 and IEC 61010

  • Experience supporting hardware verification, validation, and troubleshooting through all development phases

  • Exposure to manufacturing processes, including PCB fabrication, assembly, and test

General Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. electrical engineering or related technical discipline with at least 4 years of industry experience

  • Ability to work on-site full-time in Cambridge, MA

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, highly organized with demonstrated curiosity, scientific rigor and creative problem-solving

  • Proactive self-starter with eagerness to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment

  • Passion for technology translation and willingness to shape Nanopath’s future Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Nanopath we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every point in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!
