Position Summary

The Groundskeeper / Cleaner position combines responsibilities for both outdoor grounds maintenance and indoor cleaning services. This role focuses primarily on groundskeeping during landscaping season, while cleaning duties may increase during off-season months or as operational needs arise.

The employee will perform duties as assigned by the Supervisor and in accordance with company policies and contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Groundskeeping Duties

1. Maintain outdoor grounds, lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas.

2. Operate landscaping equipment including ride-on mowers, walk-behind mowers, trimmers, hedge cutters, weed trimmers, and blowers.

3. Mow lawns and trim edges around sidewalks, flower beds, parking lots, and building perimeters.

4. Plant flowers, shrubs, grass, and other landscaping elements as needed.

5. Spread mulch and replenish soil in landscaped areas.

6. Prune shrubs, hedges, and small trees to maintain a clean and safe environment.

7. Remove low-hanging tree limbs that may pose safety hazards.

8. Maintain established lawns by aerating, mulching, weeding, edging, and removing thatch.

9. Remove leaves using blowers, rakes, or vacuums.

10. Keep grounds free of trash, litter, and debris and empty outdoor receptacles

11. Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, and other exterior surfaces.

12. Perform seasonal duties including snow removal using shovels or snow blowers.

13. Load, unload, and transport landscaping equipment and materials.

14. Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and landscaping vehicles after use.

15. Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Cleaning Duties

1. Perform commercial and residential cleaning services.

2. Clean and sanitize bathrooms and restock supplies.

3. Sweep, dust, mop, and vacuum floors.

4. Remove trash and maintain waste disposal areas.

5. Perform carpet vacuuming and shampooing.

6. Provide floor care services including stripping, waxing, and buffing.

7. Clean interior windows and glass surfaces.

8. Disinfect high-touch surfaces and common areas.

9. Perform specialized disinfecting services when required.

10. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Stage equipment, materials, and supplies for daily work assignments.

2. Assist with lifting and moving heavy tools, plants, and equipment.

3. Participate in staff meetings and safety briefings as required.

4. Drive a company vehicle to job sites when necessary.

5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

High School Diploma preferred. Knowledge of cleaning equipment and maintenance procedures. Must be able to obtain and wear an Agency uniform. NYS Driver’s license and access to a vehicle a plus. Computer literacy is a plus.
