Apicha Community Health Center aims to improve community health by providing access to comprehensive primary care, preventive health services, mental health, and supportive services. We are currently seeking a Phlebotomist to work at our 400 Broadway location.
Position Summary:
Perform venipunctures and finger sticks, process medical laboratory tests and document results for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Follow all CLIA and COLA requirements and regulations. Serve as a back-up for clinical team members as needed.
The major duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Direct Patient Care

Obtain blood specimens from patients per laboratory orders by performing venipunctures and finger sticks, process medical laboratory tests and documents results.

Serve as a back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow, performing EKG tests, obtaining blood pressure measurements, documenting vital signs in EMR and administering injectables.

Communicate with and assist patients in a professional and courteous manner.
Administration
-
Enter patient demographics, tests performed and diagnoses correlating to tests performed in the EMR.

Complete lab requisitions forms and produce appropriate labels for forms and specimen tubes.

Complete appropriate laboratory forms documenting tests performed and providing diagnoses correlating to tests performed.

Review the laboratory schedule and verify and complete orders. Identify the patient and confirm the correct patient record. Monitor and resolve orders in the electronic medical record.
Maintenance of Clinic Equipment and Supplies

Order and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.

Clean and maintain laboratory including equipment.
Compliance
- Maintain records and documentation for proficiency testing and to meet COLA and CLIA requirements and regulations.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required.

Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Program, Associate degree preferred.

One (1) year full time Medical Assistant work experience preferred.

Possession of a current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS CPR) certificate.

Ability to work both independently and in a team.

Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS preferred.

Ability to speak Spanish or one of the Asisan languages is strongly preferred.
