Packaging Lab Technician

Location: Trumbull, CT

Pay Rate: $ 25.00/hour

Schedule: 32 hours per week | No Fridays planned

About the Role

We are seeking a Packaging Lab Technician to support packaging testing, new product launches, and product/package qualifications. This position works closely with Packaging Engineers, Package Testing Engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to coordinate materials, perform testing, collect data, and prepare technical reports.

The ideal candidate will have packaging experience or laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment and be comfortable working independently in an active laboratory setting.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in and lead testing of packaging components and materials.

  • Coordinate packaging materials, testing activities, test reports, and related administrative tasks.

  • Support Packaging Engineers with new product launches and package qualification projects.

  • Assist with the design and development of packaging components.

  • Create and maintain package testing plans.

  • Collect data for sustainability metrics and product benchmarking studies.

  • Research packaging currently available in the market and evaluate new packaging examples.

  • Set up, operate, and maintain packaging test equipment.

  • Perform testing using equipment such as:

  • Compression and vibration testers

  • Pump force testers

  • Vacuum chambers

  • Wall-thickness measurement equipment

  • Bottle fillers

  • Heat sealers for films, pouches, and tubes

  • Coordinate and perform e-commerce shipping tests using ISTA standardized testing procedures .

  • Perform package compatibility testing, including filling products into bottles and other packaging, placing samples in designated storage environments, and conducting scheduled evaluations.

  • Support qualification testing of new packaging components, including bottles, closures, and pumps.

  • Manage the collection, setup, testing, and disposal of packaging materials.

  • Fill, cap, label, and evaluate bottles and other packaging components.

  • Record test results and prepare clear, concise technical reports.

  • Assist with setup and minor repairs of laboratory equipment.

  • Manage multiple testing activities and priorities while meeting project timelines.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with engineers and laboratory staff.

Products You'll Support

This position will support packaging for a variety of consumer products, including:

  • Laundry products

  • Personal care products

  • Soap and body wash

  • Hair care products

  • Hair coloring products

  • Retail and salon products

Qualifications

  • Packaging experience is required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory technician or packaging experience in a manufacturing environment , OR a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Packaging Science with 0–3 years of experience.

  • Experience with package testing, packaging materials, or manufacturing laboratory environments is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint .

  • Ability to learn and work with custom software used for testing and documentation.

  • Experience with CAPE, Artios, or CAD is a plus but not required.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly with documentation and test reporting.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Comfortable working as part of a small team and proactively seeking out new tasks and responsibilities.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

This is an active laboratory position involving a combination of bench work and physical activity.

  • Approximately 15% of the role involves e-commerce shipping tests and other physical activities.

  • Must be able to lift packaging cases weighing up to 35 lbs. , with most items weighing less than 20 lbs.

  • Comfortable standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout the laboratory.

  • Must be comfortable setting up equipment and handling packaging materials.

  • Ability to perform filling, capping, labeling, and other hands-on packaging activities.

Work Schedule

32 hours per week

No Fridays planned.

An earlier start may be possible if a qualified candidate is identified before the anticipated start date.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on laboratory or packaging professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable balancing multiple projects. You should be able to work independently, communicate effectively with engineers and cross-functional teams, and take initiative when additional work or responsibilities arise.

This position will be supported and directed by a Senior Lab Technician and Packaging Engineer .

Pay Details: $25.00 per hour
