Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. Responsible for a segment or phase of an examination as assigned by the team coordinator or team manager which will serve as an integral part in completing and closing the examination. This involves searching, locating, and documenting specific information from the taxpayer's books and records. Documents the facts and evidence obtained to ensure that appropriate information are available for the team coordinator or team member to reach a sound conclusion. Conducts technical, industry, market and IRM research for the team manager, team coordinator, and team members. Inputs information to update and retrieve case and related status and information using database systems such as), the Examination Return Control System (ERCS) and the Audit Information Management System (AIMS). Extracts and analyzes pertinent statistics or information concerning Coordinated Industry Cases (CIC) and Industry Cases (IC) using, ERCS and. Provides input to update monitoring systems used in support of Industry and Division Strategic Business Plans and Balanced Measures goals and objectives. Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must meet the qualification requirements outlined below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents for completeness; processing case-related transactions; maintaining office records; locating and compiling information from files and other data sources; processing a variety of tax returns, reports, and supporting documentation for current, prior-year, and amended returns; examining tax returns and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy; and contacting customers by telephone and written correspondence to obtain information, explain tax liabilities, and encourage compliance. AND You must also meet the following requirement(s): TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT (TACA): By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. For this requirement, a competitive appointment is one where you applied to and were appointed from an announcement open to "All US Citizens" TIME IN GRADE (TIG): For positions above the GS-05, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the grade you are applying for. For positions at the GS-05, you cannot advance to the GS-05 if you have held a GS-02 in the past 52 weeks. There is no TIG restriction for GS-02, 03 or 04 positions. TYPING AND OFFICE AUTOMATION (OA): Typing: This position requires a qualified typist with a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute (based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors). Office Automation (OA): This position requires experience using office automation systems, software practices and procedures. Education
A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. Cheating on an assessment may also result in your removal from consideration. Rating: Your application will be evaluated in accordance with the Service's Merit Promotion Plan. A quality group rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level groups, Superior/Best Qualified, Highly Qualified and Qualified. Referral: Eligible applicants rated in the highest quality group, may be referred to a selecting official for consideration. Candidates, if required to participate in a selection interview (telephonic and/or in person at the discretion of the Selecting Official in accordance with hiring practices), will be interviewed in quality group order.
