Job Description

OCH Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Principal Network Engineer to join our team supporting the FAA. This role involves complex network infrastructure systems across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with enterprise-level systems, strong expertise in Cisco and VMware technologies, and a proven ability to troubleshoot complex, interconnected environments. This role also requires excellent documentation skills, as well as experience managing system upgrades and evaluating new technologies and solutions

Location

On-site: FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center – Egg Harbor Township, NJ

This position may require up to 20% travel to customer sites, based on project and business needs

Core Responsibilities & Duties

Serve as the technical authority and lead architect for enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites and data center environments.

Design, implement, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable network architectures.

Oversee operations and performance of environments, ensuring uptime, redundancy, and resilience.

Lead network modernization, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Manage and support core networking technologies including routing, switching, load balancing, and network security.

Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex network issues.

Oversee and optimize performance using monitoring and diagnostic tools.

Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure seamless system integration.

Develop and maintain network documentation, standards, and SOPs.

Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.

Support federal compliance standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST, FAA guidelines where applicable).

Participate in strategic planning, capacity planning, and technology road mapping.

Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for critical issues.

Support configuration management and IT logistics activities.

Assist with systems testing and maintenance.

Occasional travel to government facilities is required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Math, Engineering, or related field

Experience:

A minimum of fifteen (15+) years in systems engineering including five (5+) years in a senior or lead role

Extensive experience with Cisco networking technologies (routing, switching, firewalls)

Proven ability to lead network architecture design and optimization

Hands-on experience managing multi-site, enterprise environments

Experience supporting both Windows and Linux environments

Experience with VMware virtualization platforms

Experience with web and proxy services (e.g. Nginx, socat)

Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools ( e.g.,Riverbed, ManageEngine, Wireshark, Netshark)

Strong understanding of network security principals and best practices

Experience creating technical documentation and system diagrams

Security Clearance Requirement

Candidate must have the ability to hold and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Cisco technologies, including ASA, ISR, and UCSX platforms

Experience with datacenter management

Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Experience with closed network systems and data streaming protocols

Experience with HPE nimble storage in networked environments

Proficient in Linux environments, primarily RHEL and CentOS

Experience with automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.)

FAA NAS experience

Relevant certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, or other advanced networking or security certifications
