Full job description

  • Coordinates all activities between the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the Institution.

  • Delivers and picks up all mail.

  • Receives USPS and United Parcel Service (UPS) packages and coordinate delivery to the institutional property officer.

  • The Postal Center Director actively direct and supervise the inspection of all mail for contraband.

  • Maintains and interprets SCDC policies and USPS regulations concerning mail in an institutional environment.

  • Maintains records of money instruments received and/or returned.

  • Coordinates activities of E.H. Cooper Trust Fund.

  • Research records for the location of inmates in an effort to handle the mail properly.

  • Actively directs and supervises the activities of both incoming and outgoing mail and packages.

  • Plans and schedules work assignments and employee training.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or deliver operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • An Associates degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
