Job Description

A defense company in the directed energy and high-energy laser systems space is looking to hire an Optical Technician to join their fast-paced team. This individual will support the assembly, integration, alignment, testing, and documentation of advanced laser and electro-optical systems, including optical, mechanical, electro-optical, and fiber-optic subsystems. Responsibilities include receiving and inspecting components, mounting and bonding optics, performing optical alignments, constructing test fixtures, operating alignment and metrology equipment, maintaining cleanroom standards, troubleshooting system issues, generating work instructions and test documentation, supporting thermal management system assembly, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to meet program milestones. This role requires the ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and support occasional customer-site testing activities. The pay range for this position is $30-$45/hour based on experience. The position is 5 days/week onsite in Longmont, CO, and will be a 6-month contract to hire layout with the primary goal being permanent conversion. Applicants must be eligible to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance; active clearances are preferred.

Skills and Requirements

1-3+ years of professional or academic experience with optics, lasers, electro-optical systems, or fiber optics Hands-on opto-mechanical hardware assembly experience including optical mounting, alignment, bonding, and integration Experience working in a cleanroom environment and following contamination-control procedures Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow/document technical processes High School Diploma or GED Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance Experience with high-power laser systems and optical fiber splicing, polishing, or repair Familiarity with optical alignment/metrology equipment (interferometers, autocollimators, spectrophotometers, beam profilers, etc.) Associate degree or technical certification in Optics
