Combined Continuity and Spotting List (CCSL) Specialist - Burbank
Due to further expansion, we're seeking an experienced CCSL Specialist to join our team on an independent contractor basis. This is a vital role requiring someone who can masterfully craft shot-by-shot Continuity descriptions for feature film content. While we'll provide the dialogue lists and spotting lists, and train you on our software and platform, we need someone who can hit the ground running with proven continuity writing expertise. This is a freelance, remote-work opportunity, but our hope is to find someone local to our offices who can attend on-site for orientation and occasional training. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in theatrical CCSL creation, with an exceptional eye for visual detail and the ability to translate complex on-screen action into precise, evocative written descriptions. To succeed at EIKON, candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, flexible, but above all professional, with a great determination to succeed. They'll be comfortable working to tight deadlines, managing pressure well, and have extremely high standards of quality. This is a fast-paced industry where clients' needs are constantly changing, so the right candidates need to be adaptable and comfortable making informed decisions in sometimes ambiguous situations. They will possess the desire and ability to learn new software, concepts and workflows, both currently and going forward. Attitude is key. Key Responsibilities Working with our ever-growing scripting and localization department, you will be the specialist responsible for creating comprehensive Continuity sections of CCSLs. You'll work with existing dialogue lists and spotting information to produce detailed, shot-by-shot descriptions of visual action, scene composition, character movements, and on-screen text throughout entire features and television episodes. Main Duties:
- Create detailed Continuity descriptions for theatrical features, streaming content, and television programming
- Provide precise shot-by-shot visual descriptions including camera angles, character blocking, scene transitions, and on-screen elements
- Describe on-screen text, graphics, titles, and any visual information critical to narrative understanding
- Capture visual nuances including character expressions, emotional beats, and physical reactions
- Work collaboratively with dialogue list creators and spotters to ensure seamless CCSL integration
- Maintain consistency in description style, terminology, and level of detail across projects
- Research subject matter, cultural references, and specialized terminology to ensure accurate descriptions
- Review and quality-check completed CCSLs for accuracy, completeness, and timing alignment
- Adapt to various client-specific format requirements and style guidelines
- Meet tight production deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality standards
- Test new software platforms and workflows, providing feedback and bug reports
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and clients
Skills and Attributes Essential Skills
- Visual literacy and cinematic knowledge: Deep understanding of film language, shot composition, camera movements, and editing techniques
- Descriptive writing excellence: Exceptional ability to translate visual information into clear, precise, and evocative written descriptions
- Continuity expertise: Proven experience creating shot-by-shot continuity for feature films or broadcast content
- Attention to detail: Meticulous observation skills with the ability to capture both obvious and subtle on-screen elements
- Timing and pacing: Strong sense of screen time and ability to align descriptions with exact timing codes
- Technical terminology: Fluency in production and post-production terminology (e.g., shot types, camera moves, editorial transitions)
- Cultural awareness: Ability to identify and accurately describe cultural references, symbols, and context-specific elements
- Consistency: Ability to maintain uniform style, terminology, and detail level throughout lengthy projects

Helpful Additional Experience

- Background in script supervising, editing, or cinematography
- Foreign language skills for identifying non-English text and dialogue
Minimum Qualifications
- BA degree required in Film Studies, Media Production, English, Communications, or related discipline
- 3+ years professional experience creating theatrical CCSLs or similar shot-by-shot continuity documentation
