Division Overview: Montana’sDivision of Criminal Investigationis a diverse public safety team of professionals who provide a full range of criminal investigative services to state, local, and tribal law enforcement. From homicide investigations to illegal narcotics, criminal records, cybercrime, human trafficking, missing persons, or through training and certifying public safety officers, DCI serves as the hub in providing critical law enforcement support. Job Overview: TheSex Offender Registry Crime Analystis responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of Montana's Sexual and Violent Offender Registry (SVOR) while supporting statewide and federal public safety initiatives. This position serves as an auditor and crime analyst, working collaboratively with local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. The position independently resolves complex compliance issues involving diverse law enforcement agencies across Montana. Each audit and corrective action plan requires analytical judgment and tailored approaches based on the unique operational needs of individual agencies. The incumbent is responsible for identifying areas of non-compliance, conducting detailed audits, providing technical assistance and guidance, and ensuring timely resolution of deficiencies. As the SVOR Crime Analyst, the position collects, analyzes, audits, validates, stores, and disseminates information related to registered sexual and violent offenders within Montana and nationwide. Responsibilities include validating National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) files, conducting quality assurance reviews, and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of offender registration records and their reflection in national databases. The position performs detailed data analysis to identify discrepancies, improve data quality, and support proactive law enforcement operations and informed decision-making. Audit responsibilities require applying professional auditing principles and practices to complex law enforcement records, policies, and procedures while maintaining strict compliance with state and federal statutes, CJIS requirements, and registry regulations. The position demands exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a high degree of accuracy in preparing, reviewing, and documenting audit findings. This position serves as a liaison between criminal justice agencies and SVOR, providing training, technical support, policy interpretation, and recommendations to improve compliance, data integrity, and operational effectiveness. Through continuous monitoring, auditing, and analysis, the position helps maintain the integrity of Montana's sex offender registry system while enhancing statewide public safety and supporting victim and community protection. Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in research and analysis of data, criminal justice, law, or social science. * Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted. * Knowledge: At hire this position requires the ability to understand and learn laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, precedents and terminology. Must have experience with computers and computer networks. Must have the ability to learn and understand various automated and manual information retrieval systems. Must have knowledge of methods and techniques utilized for research and statistical analysis. * Skills: At hire the incumbent must be skilled in performing detail work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. Skill is also required in the operation and maintenance of common office machines and training equipment.
