Job Purpose & Scope
Responsible for the origination and structuring of commercial real estate loans across a broad range of property types (multi-family, office, retail, industrial, hospitality, mixed-use, special use, land development, single-family lot development) and markets, with sophisticated sponsorship and deal structures. Coordinates closely with leadership in assessing and structuring new opportunities as well as with the Bank’s MMCRE Loan Closing and Asset Management Departments in the closing of credit facilities.
Essential Job Functions

Drives business development efforts and cultivates leads to originate loans, grow deposits, and sell other Bank products, as necessary.

Reviews proposed lending opportunities with potential Bank customers and makes recommendations regarding opportunities that fit the Bank’s lending criteria.

Analyzes property operations (historical and projected) and, if applicable, assesses the adequacy of the proposed budget and contractor strength.

Analyzes the creditworthiness and management capabilities of sponsor/guarantor.

Negotiates and prepares term sheets that communicate accurately the terms under which Bank would close a lending facility.

Performs due diligence pertaining to site visits, lease review, customer or credit documentation review, and more.

Reviews market analysis and appraisals to determine whether the report accurately reflects the knowledge of the property's operations and market position.

Interacts with the Loan Closing and Asset Management Departments to ensure proper execution of the loan closing and booking process and transitioning of the loan to servicing phase, including corresponding with third parties, borrowers and guarantors to ensure loans are closed correctly and timely.

Communicates in a timely, consistent, and professional manner with clients and internal/external parties to manage expectations effectively, gather relevant underwriting information and effectively overcome issues that arise during the underwriting process and closing process.

Collaborates with Closing Department and Asset Management Department to ensure Bank’s customers are provided superior services and Bank’s interests are afforded the best possible protection.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of the full-cycle loan process and regulatory environment for various types of real estate.

Comprehensive industry knowledge, including existing and trending economic conditions.

Ability to analyze complex financial data, interpret results, and present findings.

Ability to problem-solve using analytical, logistical, and verbal/written communication skills.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to utilize discretion and sound judgment in decision making and maintain confidentiality.

Ability to demonstrate professional maturity to discuss complicated issues and opportunities with substantial real estate owners and developers.

Ability to articulate the strengths, weaknesses and issues related to a transaction, in both written and oral presentations.

Ability to demonstrate initiative to accomplish work objectives.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing environment with deadlines.

Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Skill in using computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel and ARGUS.
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or related field, or commensurate work experience, required.

Three (3) or more years of work experience in commercial real estate underwriting or asset management required.

Experience in a commercial real estate institution or firm preferred.

Prior work experience presenting real estate investment and/or lending opportunities to an investment board or committee preferred.
