Job Overview
PlanetArt is looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations in partnership with the HR and Finance Teams. The ideal candidate will be a detail-orientated organized, and comfortable working with payroll data in a fast-paced environment. This role requires at least two years of payroll processing experience, strong Excel skills and the ability to handle tasks such as payroll calculations, employee record updates, garnishments, contractor payments and reporting with accuracy and consistency. The Payroll Specialist will also work cross-functionally to help maintain accurate records and support timely payroll processing in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be local to or willing to relocate to the Woodridge area as we operate on a hybrid work model (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities

Process payroll cycles: Calculate wages, bonuses, overtime, deductions, and verify timecards for timely and accurate distribution.

Process 1099 payments, including AP voucher entry and payment reconciliation for independent contractors.

Administer garnishments including calculations, processing, and responses to inquiries.

Maintain payroll records by updating employee information, benefits, and new hire profiles.

Review, verify, and process employee business expense reimbursements.

Prepare payroll journal entries and support general ledger posting.

Prepare routine and ad-hoc payroll reports for management.

Support payroll compliance by processing payroll in accordance with company guidelines and applicable regulations.

Perform routine payroll audits, identify discrepancies, and correct or escalate issues as needed.

Maintain digital payroll files in accordance with company and department data-retention policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
What You Should Have
Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements

2+ Years of payroll, accounting, or related administrative experience.

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, HR, or a related field preferred.

Exposure to payroll processing and payroll systems preferred.

Exposure to multi-state payroll preferred; California payroll experience a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Proficiency in Paychex Flex a plus.
-
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

This is a hybrid position; employees are expected to be in the office three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) with the option of working remotely two days (Wednesday and Friday).

The compensation range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00
