School Bus Driver/Cleaner - 2nd Shift
Classification: Non-Competitive Location: Transportation/Pashley Elementary School Shift: 1:45pm - 10:00pm
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is accepting applications for a School Bus Driver/Cleaner. This is a full-time, split-role position within the Transportation Department and Pashley Elementary School. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting students and performing cleaning and maintenance duties within the transportation facility and on District vehicles.
This position is classified as Non-Competitive under Civil Service and combines school bus driving and transportation facility cleaning responsibilities.
School Bus Driver
Civil Service – Non-Competitive
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus in transporting students to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other school-related activities. The driver is responsible for the safety and conduct of student passengers. Work is performed under general supervision, with considerable leeway allowed in carrying out assigned duties.
Typical Work Activities

Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or for special trips.

Performs required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Reports operational defects and safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Instructs students on proper safety procedures and maintains order among passengers.

Keeps buses clean and in good condition.

Cleans and maintains District transportation vehicles as assigned.
-
May operate other District vehicles.
-
May perform minor vehicle maintenance.
-
Maintains trip records, including mileage, incidents, schedules, and routes.
-
Prepares and updates route maps and pickup points.
-
Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
Good knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
-
Ability to operate a school bus safely under a variety of driving conditions.
-
Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
-
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-
Ability to interact positively with children and maintain appropriate passenger conduct.
-
Mechanical aptitude.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the appropriate School Bus (S) endorsement at the time of appointment.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must meet all requirements established by the New York State Commissioner of Education for school bus drivers.
Cleaner
Civil Service – Non-Competitive
The Cleaner performs routine cleaning duties within the Transportation Department, including the Transportation facility, offices, common areas, and District vehicles. Work follows established procedures and is performed under the direct supervision of a higher-level supervisor.
Typical Work Activities

Dusts and cleans furniture, chairs, desks, tables, and other surfaces within the transportation facility.

Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and maintains floors using appropriate equipment.

Cleans and maintains restrooms and other common areas.
-
Collects and disposes of garbage and recyclables.
-
Cleans and maintains school buses and other District vehicles.
-
Washes windows, walls, sinks, and other surfaces as assigned.
-
Cleans and maintains transportation offices and work areas.
-
Uses cleaning equipment, supplies, and materials safely and appropriately.
-
Performs other routine cleaning and Transportation Department duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-
Ability to work effectively with others.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR
-
Three months of building cleaning experience; OR
-
Successful completion of a job training or job readiness program.
