THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1226000 and is part of the IL CSMS 2, National Guard.

Duties

As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (TITLE 32), WG-6610-4/6/8, you will perform maintenance, repair, and inspection on a full range of small arms and related devices. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Diagnoses and identifies mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons, such as, automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, rocket launchers, mortars, and other small arms and accessories. Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. After disassembly examines for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modifies small weapons by replacing obsolete parts. Applies finishing agents and test fires and/or performs operational checks of arms repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms. Requirements

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear a military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. May be required to successfully complete a trial period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. If an Optional Form (OF) 306, Declaration of Employment is submitted prior to the point of a conditional offer, questions related to background information section may not be asked. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will be all U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted only - NTE E7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-8 Level MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required; experience in adjustment of levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems; experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications, and drawings to determine operation, assembly, and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired, and modified, is required; experience in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages is required; tools include drills, files, saws, hammers, vises, and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances. WG-6 Level MUST possess experience or training in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages is required; tools include drills, files, saws, hammers, vises, and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances; experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications, and drawings to determine operation, assembly, and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired, and modified. WG-4 Level MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications, and drawings; must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
