Emergency Department:

Newly expanded, the Emergency Department has thirty-two beds divided into four pods of eight beds each (staffed with one provider, two RNs and one tech per pod), and nine beds in the Clinical Decision Unit, this fast-paced ED treats an average of more than 150 patients per day. Types of cases include acute cardiovascular and neurovascular emergencies, general medical emergencies, traumatic injuries and psychiatric patients. We are recognized by the American Heart Association as both a STEMI receiving center and a designated Primary Stroke Center. The ages of those treated range from neonate to geriatric. An extensive orientation program allows the emergency nurse to work autonomously with a wide range of clinical specialties in treating the emergent patients and families. The ED fosters high levels of teamwork and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary group of professionals. New graduates with appropriate training and background are welcomed.

Job Summary:

Registered nurse implements the nursing process for each patient regardless of age (i.e. infancy to geriatric) assigned to his/her care and is responsible for thepatient's care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act. Theregistered nurse promotes positive patient outcomes, quality of care and initiateschange through active involvement in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils.

National Professional Nursing Standards serve as guidelines for the registered nurse as he/she utilizes critical thinking skills and exercises appropriate nursing judgment. The registered nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes . Also, the registered nurse will serve as a role m odel by actively participating in the process of continuous professional development, teaching and learning across the healthcare continuum.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

  1. Active Kentucky License

  2. BCLS Required

  3. ACLS Required

  4. PALS Required

  5. BSN required except as noted: Individuals hired as a Staff RN prior to October 1, 2013 are grandfathered and exempt.

  6. Individuals actively employed by the system prior to October 1, 2013 are eligible for hire as a new graduate nurse without a BSN provided they enroll within 1 year of transfer and complete their BSN within 5 years of hire.

  7. Experienced RNs hired after October 1, 2013 who do not hold a BSN may only be hired with the approval of the CNO and/or applicable Vice President provided the RN enrolls in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and completes the BSN within 5 years of hire.
