Job Description An essential responsibility of a controls engineer involves designing and implementing control systems. These systems help in the automation of industrial processes, enhancing their efficiency and reliability. Controls engineers set parameters that determine how these systems respond to different conditions.
Controls Engineer
Job Duties:
-
Lead a team of electrical engineers in designing conveyor components and systems.
-
Work closely with project engineering and management to verify equipment specifications.
-
Collaborate with electrical and software engineers, as well as vendors, during product development.
-
Participate in design reviews and customer job-site meetings as needed.
-
Travel to customer sites, vendors, and manufacturing locations for meetings and project oversight.
-
Provide technical support to project managers, equipment assemblers, and site supervisors.
-
Create and refine CAD designs for conveyor systems from conceptual development through final implementation.
-
Assist in mechanical engineering and design tasks when necessary.
Experience:
-
Background in conveyor systems for automotive manufacturing.
-
Familiarity with GM, Ford, and FCA electrical control standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum three years of experience designing PLC systems.
Preferred Experience With:
• ePlan electrical design software.
• Allen Bradley Controls and Control RS Logix 5000.
• ArmorStart Motor Controllers and PowerFlex Drives.
• DeviceNet and Ethernet communications.
• PLC programming, including Control Logix and Guard Logix.
• PanelView programming for HMI interface development.
Qualifications
Required Skills:

Strong understanding of 24V DC, 120V AC, 240V AC, and 480V AC electrical circuits, including single and three-phase systems.

Expertise in VFD motor controls and automation systems.
• AutoCAD proficiency for electrical design and schematics.

Strong time management and prioritization skills.
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, management, and project teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
Willingness to travel within North America, including Mexico (up to 25%).
