Execute the technical tasks associated with providing verified identifications of cards received by mail or electronically, sustain AFIS database quality, and determine the association between fingerprint identification and criminal history record building are functions of the fingerprint technician position. Employees in this job perform a variety of Fingerprint Technician assignments to classify fingerprints, search fingerprint records, and compare fingerprint cards to an automated fingerprint identification system for the purpose of accurately identifying and verifying fingerprints, in addition to, attending meetings and performing other job duties as assigned. This position functions in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience Fingerprint Technician 7 Two years of administrative support experience.
Fingerprint Technician 8 One year of experience equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician 7.
Fingerprint Technician E9 Two years of experience equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician, including one year equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician 8.
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Please note: Applicants will be screened out for failure to attach the required resume, cover letter/cover memo (cover letter/cover memo addressed to Ms. Abby Rochon), and (if applicable) official transcripts to their application. Individuals must complete the on-the-job training course for fingerprint technicians approved by the Department of State Police, or have received comparable on-the-job training experience obtained through a major outside law enforcement agency or organization. Individuals must also take and pass the State of Michigan AFIS board of Review exam to become a State of Michigan Certified Fingerprint Technician within the first year of entry. Failure to meet these requirements will preclude employment.
In addition, applicants will be screened on the following criteria:• Knowledge of the basic three fingerprint patterns
- Experience with the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System
