Job Description: Under general supervision of the Transportation Coordinator to perform a variety of complex and responsible clerical duties and provide support to the Coordinator and other department personnel.
Typical Duties:

Performs a wide variety of clerical work including word processing, data entry, reporting, filing and recordkeeping.

Perform as a Dispatcher, responding to inquiries via telephone, in person, mail, e-mail, and 2-way radio devices and answers questions regarding Transportation issues such as field trip requests, Agency vehicle requests, and vehicle repair procedures.

Operates standard office equipment and maintains records required by local, County, State and Federal agencies.

Types/prepares letters, reports, memoranda, bulletins or other material from oral direction, rough draft, or notes.

Assist Transportation Coordinator with CDL Enrollment through CWD.

Responsible for overseeing the vehicle keys and assigning vehicles to drivers based on the needs of the programs.

Facilitates communication between bus drivers and the Transportation Coordinator in the absence of the Coordinator, including the operation of two-way radio equipment.

Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace.
-
Attend all mandatory trainings/meetings required of the position and as directed by the Transportation Coordinator.
-
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must possess or meet requirements for Office Clerk III.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER: (A) Successful completion of at least thirty (30) credit hours from a college or university; OR, (B) One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent office clerical or secretarial experience* *
Experience as a Teller, Cashier or Sales Clerk will not be considered appropriate experience for the purposes of these minimum qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to carry out oral and written directions, read, write, and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed. Must pass Agency required pre-employment exam.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of increasingly responsible office experience required, preferably in a school setting.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and arithmetic.

Knowledge of basic computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel and inventory or other software specific to the Agency or Transportation Department.

Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Ability to perform clerical work of moderate difficulty without close supervision.

Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.

Ability to operate a two-way radio and dispatch appropriately.

Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a standard office environment and come in direct contact with District staff, students, and the public. In addition, the Transportation Assistant may occasionally perform duties and responsibilities that occur outside school buildings and facilities at other school related activities and events, and may be exposed to gas, diesel vapors, vehicle exhaust and other chemicals.
