Summary

The Senior Manager of Income Tax Provision and Tax Compliance supports the Senior Vice President in executing the company's income tax provision and federal/state/local compliance functions. This role serves as a senior technical contributor responsible for hands-on preparation, review, and quality control of ASC 740 calculations and tax return filings. The Senior Manager plays a key role in process improvement and documentation, while building cross-functional relationships to support the department's strategic objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Income Tax Provision (ASC 740)

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations.

  • Support ETR analysis and assist in communicating results and drivers to the Senior Vice President and Finance leadership.

  • Maintain deferred tax asset and liability roll forwards and assist with valuation allowance assessments.

  • Prepare and document uncertain tax position (UTP) analysis and FIN 48 reserve schedules.

  • Execute provision-to-return true-up processes and ensure timely completion.

Federal & State/Local Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and review federal and state/local income and franchise tax returns, including consolidated and unitary filings.

  • Coordinate with external advisors on compliance workpapers, extension calculations, and estimated tax payments.

  • Monitor federal and state tax law changes and identify impacts on filings and financial reporting.

  • Maintain the tax compliance calendar and proactively manage deadlines across all jurisdictions.

  • Prepare cash tax forecast.

Audit Readiness & Risk Management

  • Prepare organized, audit-ready workpapers and documentation supporting all provision and compliance positions.

  • Assist with federal income tax audits and inquiries.

  • Support state income tax audits and inquiries, including document gathering and response preparation.

  • Assist in identifying and monitoring prior year tax exposures and uncertain positions.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal controls over tax processes.

Process, Technology & Documentation

  • Identify and implement efficiencies in tax provision and compliance workflows using technology and automation.

  • Utilize AI-assisted tools and tax technology platforms to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.

  • Develop and maintain process documentation, workpaper templates, and standardized procedures.

  • Support the centralized repository of tax positions, workpapers, and procedural guides.

Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, and Legal on tax-related close activities, disclosures, and transactions.

  • Assist with tax support for business initiatives, M&A diligence, and strategic planning projects.

  • Serve as a resource for tax questions from internal stakeholders across business units.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four college or university with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • CPA license preferred; Master's in Taxation (MST) preferred.

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive income tax experience, with demonstrated expertise in ASC 740 and multi-state compliance.

  • Prior in-house corporate tax experience preferred; public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm) valued.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing income tax returns for a multi-entity, multi-state corporate group.

  • Hands-on experience with income tax provision software (e.g., OneSource, CorpTax, or equivalent).

  • Strong technical knowledge of ASC 740, federal consolidated return regulations, and multi-state apportionment.

  • Working knowledge of deferred tax accounting, uncertain tax positions, and ETR components.

  • Proficiency with tax technology platforms and general ledger/ERP systems.

  • Experience with or interest in AI-driven tools and automation in a tax environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage workstreams and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact across functions and levels.
