Summary This position is being advertised at the GS-5/6 grade level with promotion potential to the GS-8 grade level and is responsible for accomplishing a variety of support services. Responsibilities Duties listed are at the full performance level, GS-06. Track budget expenses for a unit or organization. Monitor the daily functions of a front desk to assure optimum operation. Perform administrative and/or human resources management functions for a unit. Lead by example to provide exceptional customer service for both internal and external customers. Respond to all staff administrative requests in a professional, pleasant, and timely manner. Prepare, control, coordinate, and/or assemble information for procurement actions. Use a company credit card to order and/or purchase goods, supplies and/or services. Use various software/database applications for organizational tracking and/or reporting purposes. Provide office support through the use of software and automated equipment (i.e., word processing, electronic communications, spreadsheets, graphics, and/or databases). Prepare and/or process correspondence, reports, and/or forms that affect the work of an organization. Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-05 level: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at the least the GS-04 level. General experience is experience that involved dealing with others in person-to-person work situations, in obtaining and providing a variety of services for an organization, or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform successfully the work of the position to be filled. Examples of work experience that meet this requirement include: Accurately typing correspondence, reports, or similar materials from handwritten or electronic drafts using word processing software; ensuring correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and appropriate format; using database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, calculate, or retrieve data for standard reports; accurately and promptly transmitting and receiving documents and messages electronically; reading, routing, and processing incoming correspondence and materials in accordance with established procedures. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree. OR A combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. For the GS-06 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting one or more of the following: Compiling and organizing monthly expenditure information for routine budget reporting; reviewing correspondence or documents for grammatical accuracy, correct formatting, and adherence to established guidelines; purchasing routine supplies or special-order items, including reconciling purchases in an electronic database; monitoring inventory levels and determining when supplies need replenishment. OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as Business or Public Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled). The education was obtained in an accredited college or university. OR A combination of graduate level education (such as Business or Public Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) that is directly related to the work of the position and specialized experience. The education was obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Additional Information The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project.
