Job Title: Field EngineerJob Description

Join a dynamic team leading the deployment and replacement of civil air traffic surveillance radarsboth approach and en-routeacross the United States. As a Field Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering advanced radar solutions that enhance the safety and efficiency of air traffic nationwide. You will define and implement system architectures, coordinate complex technical integrations, and support field engineering teams to ensure successful delivery at multiple radar sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition of system architecture for large-scale civil air traffic radar deployments, ensuring robust, scalable, and compliant solutions.

  • Analyze functional and technical requirements for approach and en-route radar systems and translate them into clear, actionable specifications.

  • Design and document technical interfaces, guaranteeing seamless integration of all components, including commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and third-party systems.

  • Prepare and maintain essential technical documentation, such as Interface Control Documents (ICD) and System Test Plans (TP), in close collaboration with the Product Department.

  • Coordinate and drive internal and formal technical reviews, ensuring adherence to quality, regulatory, and safety standards.

  • Oversee, review, and approve partial technical deliverables throughout all project phases, working closely with Field Engineering teams.

  • Ensure successful delivery, installation, integration, and commissioning of radar systems at multiple sites distributed across the United States.

  • Collaborate closely with the System Engineering organization and other multidisciplinary teams to align designs, resolve technical issues, and guarantee project success.

  • Maintain clear, consistent, and effective communication with all stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners.

  • Proactively identify and resolve technical and operational issues in the field, promoting continuous improvement of processes and solutions.

  • Provide technical support and product support related to radar, air traffic surveillance, and associated electronic systems.

  • Apply customer service and technical support skills to address field issues, support users, and ensure high levels of operational reliability.

  • Contribute field engineering insights, particularly in RF, telecom, and radar environments, to improve system performance and deployment practices.

Essential Skills

  • 35+ years of experience in field engineering, systems engineering, technical management, or project management within radar, air traffic surveillance, aerospace defense, or closely related sectors.

  • 23+ years of field engineering or systems engineering experience working with RF, telecom, radar, or air surveillance equipment.

  • Hands-on experience with radar systems, air surveillance, or air traffic equipment, including installation, integration, or support activities.

  • Strong background in electronics, electrical systems, and radar or RF technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to define system architectures and analyze functional and technical requirements for complex technical deployments.

  • Experience designing and documenting technical interfaces, including integration of COTS and third-party systems.

  • Proficiency in preparing technical documentation such as Interface Control Documents (ICD) and System Test Plans (TP).

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

  • Customer service and technical support skills applicable to field environments and mission-critical systems.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 3050% of the time, typically closer to 30%.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher preferred, ideally in a technical or engineering discipline (such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field).

  • Experience working with FAA-regulated systems, aerospace defense projects, or air traffic management environments.

  • background in telecom or RF field test engineering, which is highly valued and considered more critical than radar experience alone.

  • Experience in product support for complex electronic or radar-based systems.

  • Ability to participate in and lead formal technical reviews, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Collaborative mindset and ability to foster strong working relationships with system engineering and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Comfort working in fast-growing organizations and adapting to evolving processes, structures, and technologies.

Work Environment

This role operates within a rapidly growing organization that is expanding its presence across the United States and planning significant growth over the coming years. You will work in a technically advanced environment focused on civil air traffic surveillance radar systems, air traffic equipment, and associated electronics, often in collaboration with FAA and aerospace defense stakeholders. The position involves a mix of office-based engineering work and on-site field activities at radar installation and integration locations. Travel is expected up to 3050% of the time, generally closer to 30%, to support deployments and system integrations across multiple sites. The team is moving into a brand-new facility within the next six months, transitioning in phases as the organization continues to expand. You can expect a professional, collaborative atmosphere that values technical excellence, continuous improvement, and close coordination between field engineering, systems engineering, and product teams.
