Job Summary/Description:
Are you a driven visual storyteller who knows great photography and rich natural sound that transport viewers into the moment?
WKYT is seeking a Full-Time News/Sports Videographer & Editor to join our award-winning team.
You will shoot and edit high-impact daily news, live breaking coverage, and dynamic sports across the Commonwealth—from University of Kentucky (SEC) athletics to regional colleges and high school matchups.
As an editor, you'll take broadcast scripts and make them sing, combining compelling nat sound, creative pacing, and sharp sequencing on tight deadlines.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Field Photojournalism: Shoot compelling, high-quality video and capture crisp natural audio for daily general assignment news, live breaking news, enterprise features, and high-profile sports assignments.
- Comprehensive Sports Coverage: Shoot sidelines, locker rooms, practices, press conferences, and feature stories covering University of Kentucky athletics, regional colleges/universities, and Friday night high school sports.
- Non-Linear Editing: Edit news and sports packages, vo/sots, game highlights, teases, and digital video on tight deadlines, maintaining great rhythm, dynamic sequencing, and clean audio balance.
- Collaborative Storytelling: Partner effectively in the field and newsroom with reporters, sports anchors, producers, and MMJs to elevate scripts and visual pacing.
- Live Operation: Set up and operate mobile transmission equipment (TVU, mobile units) for reliable live shots from breaking news scenes, stadiums, and field venues.
- Gear Care: Maintain assigned camera packages, audio microphones, lighting kits, and station vehicles according to station standards.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Prior experience shooting and editing news, fast-paced sports action, or documentary content in a professional broadcast newsroom, athletic department, or collegiate media environment.
- Demonstrated eye for composition, creative lighting, sequencing, game tracking, and natural sound gathering.
- Proficiency in non-linear editing software (EDIUS, Adobe Premiere Pro, or equivalent) with comfort editing from laptop setups in the field.
- Ability to work flexible schedules tailored to news and sports calendars, including nights, weekends, game days, holidays, and breaking news events.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 50 lbs. of field equipment.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable, clean motor vehicle driving record.
