Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a team on a contract-to-permanent capacity in Pearl, Mississippi. This role is well suited for an accounting specialist with experience supporting daily financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with month-end activities. The position offers the opportunity to contribute within a structured accounting environment that values accuracy, accountability, and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately reflected in the general ledger.

• Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a recurring basis, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.

• Support month-end closing activities by reviewing account activity, posting adjustments, and helping maintain reporting accuracy.

• Manage payment posting and related accounting updates while ensuring supporting documentation is complete and organized.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger system through consistent review, correction, and account analysis.

• Assist with accounting processes related to federal grant funding and help ensure records align with applicable reporting requirements.

• Contribute to nonprofit accounting functions by tracking financial activity in accordance with organizational and funding guidelines.

• Use Microsoft Excel and Great Plains/Dynamics GP to analyze data, prepare schedules, and support day-to-day accounting operations.

Requirements • At least 3 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.

• Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and working within a general ledger environment.

• Proven ability to complete bank reconciliations and other account reconciliation tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

• Working knowledge of month-end close procedures and financial record maintenance.

• Experience with nonprofit accounting, including exposure to federal grant-related transactions, is preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, and account support tasks.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains or Dynamics GP accounting software.
