Job Title: Nurse Educator

Department: Nursing Education

Location: Canton-Potsdam Hospital

Hours Per Week: 37.5 scheduled weekly hours

Schedule: 8-hour shifts from 8:00 am- 4:30 pm , Monday - Friday

SUMMARY Provides and/or facilitates learning opportunities for employees, patients/residents/clients and the community in order to promote quality care, enhanced wellness, and on-going growth and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and validates the learning needs of customers by utilizing needs assessments, CQI results, performance improvement results, customer surveys, and course evaluation results.

  • Develops educational programs and curriculum that promote quality health care, employee or patient growth, and personal wellness. Programs will be based on current literature findings. Materials will be developed using current research in the field.

  • Implements and/or facilitates programs to meet the identified learning needs of our customers. Provides in-depth orientation, in-service and continuing education for staff or patients.

  • Evaluates and documents the effectiveness of educational offerings by developing, monitoring and assessing competencies. Implements changes based on need. Analyzes cost to maximize the efficient utilization of resources.

  • Provides leadership in areas of expertise as a resource to the customer. May assess clinical competence of staff with new procedures and/or equipment.

  • Utilizes effective communication strategies by developing communications and audio visual materials that are clear and concise.

  • Utilizes appropriate marketing for programs both internally and externally.

  • Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate to keep abreast of new developments and participates in activities that enhance personal and professional growth.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in nursing, health education, or instructional development or

  • An equivalent combination of education and healthcare related work experience will be considered.

  • Registered Nurse license in New York State.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Kind, understanding and strong attention to detail

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing

  • Experience in Labor and delivery/obstetrics

  • Masters Degree in Nursing

  • National certification in area of practice (Obstetrics, NPD)

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - NYS Office of Professions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Light - Clinical - Light clinical roles involve frequent standing and walking, with occasional lifting of light objects (≤20 lbs.) and routine reaching, grasping, and fine manipulation for tasks such as patient care, laboratory work, or specimen processing. Staff rely on strong visual and auditory acuity to accurately observe specimens, read instrumentation, monitor patients, respond to alarms, and communicate effectively with care teams. Cognitive demands include multitasking, prioritizing clinical and laboratory workflows, and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Emotional resilience is necessary due to frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and the need for precise and compassionate interaction with patients and colleagues. Environmental exposures may include infectious materials, biological specimens, cleaning agents, sharps, chemical reagents, and wet surfaces. PPE use, TB testing, and schedule flexibility are commonly required.

PAY RANGE:

$76,500.00 - $105,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
