Job Description

Performs tests on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Technologist Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations. May be assigned to work in a specialized section within the department.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science and ASCP (or equivalent) certification in one or more specialty areas of the laboratory. Or , Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science and completion of an AMA approved laboratory training program and eligible for ASCP certification. Or , completion of an approved government training program and eligible for ASCP certification

  • Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel

  • Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document test results and prepare reports of daily work

  • Must be able to stand for long periods

  • Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays

  • All technologists must meet the CLIA ’88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
