Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Pay: 100-120k Based on experience

Location: Vernon, CA

Job Description

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager leads and maintains all environmental, health, and safety programs within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This role ensures full compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local environmental regulations, while promoting a proactive, facility-wide safety culture. The EHS Manager develops and oversees safety programs, conducts audits and investigations, and drives continuous improvement in environmental compliance and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of environmental, health, and safety programs within a heavy industrial manufacturing facility.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.

  • Manage Environmental Compliance programs, including air, water, and waste permitting, regulatory reporting, and documentation.

  • Plan, conduct, and oversee OSHA compliance audits and other regulatory inspections, and coordinate follow-up actions.

  • Develop, implement, and manage industrial hygiene programs to identify, monitor, and control workplace exposures.

  • Administer and oversee the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program to ensure safe control of hazardous energy during maintenance and operations.

  • Manage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs, including selection, training, usage guidelines, and compliance monitoring.

  • Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce recurrence.

  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to identify risks and establish safe work practices.

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve instructor-led safety training for employees at all levels, including onboarding programs.

  • Coordinate Workers Compensation and return-to-work programs, ensuring effective case management and safe reintegration of employees.

  • Identify workplace hazards, perform risk assessments, and recommend mitigation measures to improve safety performance.

  • Drive waste reduction and environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize environmental impact and support corporate goals.

  • Manage emergency response planning and fire prevention programs, including drills, procedures, and readiness activities.

  • Maintain accurate regulatory documentation and safety records, and prepare reports required by internal stakeholders and external agencies.

  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to embed safety practices into daily manufacturing activities.

  • Lead safety program audits, track findings, and oversee implementation of corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Communicate safety expectations clearly, coach employees and supervisors, and reinforce a proactive safety culture across all shifts.

  • Adjust schedule as needed, including occasional late starts, to engage with second shift employees and address their safety needs.

  • Support safety-related aspects of employee onboarding, ensuring new hires understand environmental, health, and safety requirements.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of Environmental Health & Safety leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance regulations at federal, state, and local levels.

  • Demonstrated experience managing Environmental Compliance programs, including permitting for air, water, and waste.

  • Proven ability to conduct OSHA compliance audits and regulatory inspections and manage follow-up actions.

  • Experience developing and managing industrial hygiene programs to assess and control workplace exposures.

  • Hands-on experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program management and hazardous energy control procedures.

  • Experience administering Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs, including training and compliance oversight.

  • Experience performing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in safety training development and instructor-led delivery for diverse employee groups.

  • Ability to conduct hazard identification and risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies.

  • Experience with emergency response planning and fire prevention program management.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, or related credentials are highly preferred.

  • Experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

  • experience regulatory reporting and documentation for environmental and safety programs.

  • Familiarity with waste reduction and environmental sustainability initiatives.

  • Experience supporting safety aspects of employee onboarding in a manufacturing setting.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations and maintenance.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple compliance and safety programs.

  • Comfort with occasional schedule adjustments to engage with multiple shifts, including second shift.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment, requiring regular presence on the production floor and close interaction with operations and maintenance teams. The standard work schedule is approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional late starts to engage with second shift personnel and approximately two weekends per year required for specific business or safety needs. The environment includes typical industrial conditions such as machinery, noise, and production activities, and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is expected in designated areas. You will work in a facility where safety procedures, environmental controls, and regulatory compliance are integral to daily operations.

This is a Contract position based out of Vernon, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $58.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
