Summary
About the Position: This position a is located at Fort Bragg, NC. This position may be filled as a temporary assignment for a current Army Employee. This position is in the CDAO Directorate in the HQ, USASOC
Duties
- Serve as a Data Engineer applying modern technology development principles, design concepts maintenance, and evaluation standards to generate state of-the art software in support of US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) tasks and objectives.
- Lead the research and evaluation of new and emerging technologies to solve unprecedented or controversial data engineering problems with Army-wide impact.
- Research the applicability of new technologies utilizing software technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Pig, , Map Reduce, Spark, , Kafka, Apache products, Mage, etc.
- Operate as a senior consultant and subject matter expert to USASOC leadership and other subordinate organizations.

Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Architecting, developing, and deploying modern software applications, distributed data systems, or advanced computing architectures (e.g., cloud, hybrid, or edge environments); 2. Serving as a technical authority in software engineering and data pipelines, leading the design, integration, and optimization of data/AI systems; and 3. Evaluating, prototyping, and operationalizing emerging computing and data technologies to solve complex, large-scale software and data engineering challenges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

You will be evaluated based on how well you meet the qualifications listed in this vacancy announcement. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted.
